Coming to an end

As the semester is coming to an end, I wanted to take the time and look back over this past semester. This semester went pretty quick for me; It could be that we only have class two days a week or it could be because I enjoyed this English class. We had the freedom to explore our own ways of finding a solution to a problem on campuses that we chose. My group deiced to do Food, we may not have changed the food its self but we did manage to inform the students about the food and what they were eating. There was one student that was surprised that there are that many calories in one sandwich that he ate every day. We made a small change to something big on campuses but with one little step we may be able to start a big change for someone else that decide they want to voice their opion on the food. Over this semester we took a survey, made nutrition cards, researched nutrition facts, and made a couple videos to name a few things.
My group worked well together during meetings and class time. We would meet on Sundays and some times during the week as well as class. We would meet to decide what we needed to do an work on the projects. At the beginning it was hard for us to get everything done and stay on task. Now that we know each other we get along better and work well as a group. One of the times class was canceled my group decided to meet in Dixon and work on our project we stayed there from 3-420 like our normal class period. My group worked things out really well and got through any problems that we faced over the semester. I enjoyed this class a great deal because of our freedom of what we worked on each class period

English class for today.

Today for class we were told to go to the English conferences in the sub. I though well I guess I should go I didn’t want to go and keep pushing it off. Telling myself oh well it is all day, 9-4 so I can go when ever. When it hit 150 I was like well let’s get this over with. I walked over to the sub and to my surprise there were a lot of people there. I looked over the list of presentations that would be taking place during the next session and I found one called Memoirs with three presenters. I decided to go into this one and see what the people had to say; to my surprise I enjoyed it quite a bit. My favorite presentation was by Jasmine Hunt called “A trip down memory lane to KU”. I connected with her piece the most because she is a freshman and also went through summer start like I did. One thing that really stuck out for me was when she talked about getting the acceptance letter and being so happy. Until she read the line saying that she needed to go to summer start before being allowed to start in the fall. There was one week in the way of her future. Her stomach dropped just like mine did when I read my letter. She thought about it and everything was lying in that week at KU where you took the summer start class. After she got through that week she knew she was in and was able to be happy to be coming to KU. She was so scared but excited to go to the summer start though. This was one of the first times she got to be on her own and feel the freedom of collage. This is when she saw that she was ready for school. This is just how I felt I knew since I started my senior year of night school that I was ready to be out on my own and start collage but there was the little thing in the back of my head telling me can I really do it all on my own. Can I make it? After seeing myself away for the one week and see that I could really do this all on my own, I couldn’t wait to start in the fall with classes. As the school years coming to an end I am not sure how much I am going to like moving back into my house and not being on my own making my own decisions. It’s going to be another change that we have to go through as we grow up. Only the future can tell what will come out of things.

Todays Project Work

Today was such a nice day out my group and I decided to hand out are nutrition facts cards. We went to the sub and then walked over to academic forum. Outside of the sub we started handing out the card some people would say thank you and some would just throw away the cards. There was one kid that looked at the cards and found a sandwich that he eats every day. He say wish I would have seen this before I ate that sandwich and I eat this every day. I believe that by handing out card the students at Kutztown are starting to be able to see what they really eat in a day. It is just a start to helping the students but you have to start small to get somewhere.

After we handed some out outside of the sub we went inside where we took a video of Maura handing out the cards to a student. After we took the video he started asking why we wanted to do this. We explained that it was a English project, were we all have different topics and we are trying to help fix’s the problem to improve are community. He found this project cool and a good topic to focus on.

When we finished at the sub we went over to the Academic forum where there weren’t many people. We handed out some cards and left some on some tables for people to see when they sit down. The people in the AF didn’t have much interested in the nutrition facts. That also could be because there weren’t many people there. By this time we saw that the time was only a little after three. We still had about a half hour to work on our PowerPoint. So we sat and put some of the facts and pictures onto the PowerPoint on my laptop. When we finished working on that we decided to head over to our meeting. We all meet together with Dr. Morris and discussed are project for a little, then decided to meet on Sunday to finish up last minute things before our project is due. Over all I feel that our project is moving along quite well and we are starting to actually spread the word about what the students at Kutztown University consume.

Library

Today in class we all had the chance to work on our projects in our groups. Everyone in class went to the library where we then meet with Dr. Morris and split up.To do our group work were we deiced what would be best to work on at the time. My group decide to split up the food places on campus. After we decide where each of us would be doing the nutrition facts. We all got laptops and started to make the papers to hand out at the dinning halls. We spent the whole class time working on the research and formats of are nutrition cards. I got the majority of my part done but still need to work more on mine to fit the card. I also wen't and got paper so that we would be printing on paper that is thicker and easier for someone to keep for a longer period of time. During class time on Wednesday we are meeting to work on the final parts of each others nutrition cards and put them together. We will also be talking about when we would like to hand out these cards. I am really happy with the work that my group in getting done. I feel like we are working well together and doing a really good job of staying on task this time. We are planing on writing an article for the local school paper, handing out nutrition cards, and working on informing the students of what there choices are on campus.

Kutztown Food

In class we are all split up into different groups to work on a problem on campuses. My groups working on helping the food on campuses be a little more healthy. Also we want to inform the students of the different choices that they have to choice from. The students can choice healthier sides now such as carrots, apples, or bananas. We as students don’t always make the right decisions on what to eat, if we eat everything we want or enjoy we can become over weight. For some of us it’s the first time that we are out on our own. Then we may just want to eat the easy thing or your favorites every day. If we don’t eat a balance diet we can become over weight and lazy. We the students can pick to eat salads for lunch and maybe a sandwich and a piece of fruit for dinner and you will be doing better than eating chick-Fila every day for lunch or dinner just because it is something fast and easy. For myself I find that if I eat badly I feel sick or just tired. I don’t get anything done then and just want to hang with my friends instead of working on my school work. My group is trying to help inform the students about what they are eating by sharing the facts. We will be handing out information on what you are eating and show you what is in these foods. Also we will be trying to show the students the different options that they can choice from to help them stay healthy on campus. It sometimes isn’t always the schools fault for the bad food. It’s also your fault for choosing to eat the same things day after day.

Putting Mind Pumping to test

Today I when to Michael’s with my mom. I deiced to go when she said she was going to just have fun and see what I could find. As my mom shopped for things she needed my brother and I just when around the store and found different things. We found a measuring tool an article uses to make strate lines that looks like a T. To us it wasn’t a measuring tool it was a sword. We had a sword fight in the middle of Michael’s. Then we found children hats there was a frog, monkey, and a robot one of course we tried them all on and took pictures with my brothers phone. When we were done acting like little kids with the hats we decried to play the where is mommy game. After circling the store about five times we found her. I must add this whole time I am wearing a frog hat because we had decide to buy it for a friend’s birthday. As I walked through the store people were looking at me funny and I really didn’t care. What is wrong with a 19 year old going around a store and acting like a little kid once and awhile. Today was like what they talk about in Mind Pumping, you need to go out and don’t plan ever moment of your day go and have fun. If you find your inner child had just have fun days you will keep your create side of you young. When you keep your creative side young you will be able to come up with new ideas and be more productive in your work or school.

Mind Pumping

When reading mind pumping it made me think of different ways that you can use to help your creativity grow. They talked about ten topics some that i really enjoyed where the set an idea quota, Create a Brain bank, and be a travel junkie. When you set an idea quote what you are doing is different things to help your brain work each day like think of five new ideas each day for a week and then try and do some of the new ideas. Doing these things will help your mind grow to become more creative. When you use the Create a Brain bank all you need to do is when you are reading a magazine, book, or just looking at pictures if there is something that triggers your imagination you just write it down or tare it out. Then you put it in a box, when you need a good idea you go to this box and you take out your different pieces of information. I used to do this with quotes and photos i have a couple binders and a box. I would use the pictures and quotes to help me trigger my imagination to start a story or writhing pieces i would do. Another fun thing to do they mention in the article is being a travel junkie as they call it. You just pick yourself us and go somewhere, go to a store, park, go on a hike, go anywhere. I used to do this with my older sister when she would come home from college. We would get in the car around midnight and go to Wal-Mart, go all around the store pick up random stuff and pretend like we were buying stuff for a new house or apartment. We would pick everything out and then put everything back where it belonged. But the whole point of the event was going and having fun it would bring are inner child out and that’s just what you want to do with creativity. To be as creative as we can be i think you need to look at it as you are a little kid and when you had no care in the world you had the biggest imagination you could think of.

Interview with Kevin Carrol

In Kevin Corrols article he writes he describes creativity to him as the ability to have the eyes of a child. This was one of my faivor things that he had to say. It brought me back to when i was a kid and how much i used to do with my imagination. I used to be able to go out into my back yard and just sit and make up different situations or games. My friends and i would be able to create different games that we would play over and over again. I was talking to one of my friends the other day. We started talking about a game we played when we were children. We used to pretend that we were in a boarding school but there was always a teacher that didn’t like us. That teacher would always end up finding us and putting us in a jail like place we used to call it where no one would come and get us for hours, until the dog would come to save us. They were the only thing that could see us to get us out of this jail. To the rest of the world we were just two girls siting in her front yard having a fun time. To us we were in a whole different place. If you look like you were a child you can see so many different things. We need to bring this into are every day life’s and just have fun with are tasks. If we have fun with it we might come out with better papers, projects, ideas. You never know until you try it.

Another topic that Kevin Corrols goes into about creativity is to become great at it you need to put the work into it. Just like an athlete dose to become great at their sport. The athlete needs to work hard practice every day. Put the time and effected into their work to come out with a win or be proud of themselves. This is the same with are creavity we need to practice it and open our minds to what we can accomplish. If we practice every day we will become better. Why else would an athlete run day after ran but to get to the finish line first in the end. We must work hard to come up with the best ideas that we have to become the best we can do.

Project Update

Working on these projects opens your eyes to how you really need to go into depth about your topics to get a good conclusion. When working on a project like these you need to research on your own as well as in your groups so that everyone is on the same page. During my first projected with my group I have found it to be a little hard to keep everyone on the same page as well as for all of us to meet at the same time. We work well in class as a group and have very good ideas. I am realizing that the projects a little harder than expected, although it is helping us work on communication, group work, as well as many other things we will need for the real world one day. I will be meeting with another group doing the same topic next week were we are all trying to get together with one of employees of Kutztown university to help us come to some answers. We have run into a couple problems getting in contacted with them but we are hoping they will be able to help us get to our conclusion. I have also meet with the other group once this past week were we got to compare what we both are doing. Both groups are going to be sharing a Facebook page were we are trying to make a survey to see what the students of Kutztown would prefer. When we get the results of the survey we will have questions and ideas to bring up with the staff when we are able to get in contacted with them to talk. I am greatly appreciative of being able to work together with the other group as well as mine so that we could maybe get some results to the problems on campuses. Working as one big group gives us an advantage in numbers as long as we all work together we should be in a great position. With a Facebook page, surveys, proposal and groups members we should be able to come up with a great conclusion.

Creativity

The other day in English class we started to talk about creativity. As we talked I started to think into it even more when we become creative, what is creativity? When I started to think about a definition for creativity I couldn’t come up with one that would be a definition that would fit everyone. When I first started to think about creativity I would like oh just add some color and move things around a little make it look nice. Even though these are parts of creativity they aren’t everything, Creativity is everything you can think of. There is no stop to your creativity. In class today we watch a short movie about creativity, as we watch I noticed how we start out as little kids not scared of anything and as we get older we become more scared of being creative. We are taught that we need to sit and lessen to the teacher teach to us and tell us what to do. Don’t get me wrong we need to lessen to the teachers and do our homework but we also need to be the little kids we started out school being. In the world today if you start to do everything just like everyone else you will start to all blends together. When you put creativity into your life you start to be a little different than people and become your own person. The creativity in your life it could be music, art, poetry, dance, anything that you can imagine. There is no boundary’s to your creativity, if you can think of it and make it work for you then there you go you’re making something different in your life and becoming a creative person and not falling into the boring old schedule that everyday life can hold.
